Yes, MAJOR ABANDONMENT! My life is being consumed by this project to the point where I haven't even updated the project page. I've still been recording timelapses so the page will still get filled in eventually. But I really have just been going at it with this game. I didn't really know why, but I do know, this is the best game I ever made. Sure, The Horrors of SSAYIB is very "finished" in a sense, but it is very rough around the edges, like genuinely rough around the edges.
A comparison as to why I've been working on this so much.
The Horror of SSAYIB
It isn't intuitive (tutorial is outdated)
There are only 4 cameras, and only 2 of them are useful
Generic door locking concept (lacks urgency)
It is rough around the edges
No animation with looking around the office
No camera pull up and down animation
Lacks real ambience cues and tension rising and falling
Uses placeholder raw Hammer++ screenshots for the environment
Bugs regarding the hallucination with the phone stalling
No animation for the vent falling
Options menu doesn't work very well
Lore is subpar (basically just a joke story)
Max mode is borderline impossible and just overwhelming rather than skill based
Compared to...
Tunnel Rot
Intuitive with tutorial that is up to date
7 total cameras, all of which are useful at pinpointing enemy location
Dynamic enemy repelling mechanics that work in conjunction with each other
Polished transitions and areas
Looking around animation
Camera flipping animation with 3D models
Ambience is dynamic with enemy placement
Uses final renders with Blender for environments
Very few bugs
Lore is layered, symbolic, and thought out
Max mode is doable and relies on intuitive thinking and actual management instead of just being overwhelmed
This is why. It feels far far better to me.
Also, I went out drinking with my friends on easter sunday. They messaged me at fucking 7:30 just saying "Pub?" and I had to say yes of course, they're my friends of over 12 years now. It was great seeing them, even if I did become an old man by the end of the night. On my way back, I messaged thanking them for inviting me out, but one said "No need to thank me. Thank you for being there." and that was really nice to hear honestly.
