This is my first proper album I've made. If I'm defining "proper" as actually uploading my music everywhere, not just on Soundcloud or Bandcamp.
However, I dare call this a "project" because all of the songs on this album were already released as singles. I just decided to put them all together into one album. When I was working on the songs, I didn't initially have these all in mind as being part of an album. I was just transitioning into actually using Spotify to distribute my music.
But as for the music goes on this album, I really love it. I don't even know what changed in me, but all of the songs on this album I feel are really well put together. It's as if me releasing music outside of Spotify just didn't sound as loud, as well mixed or as interesting. All the synths just go well together on the songs on this. I leaned heavily into almost dance like music but with alternative takes on the genre. They are moody, atmospheric and dynamic. I'll go over my thoughts over some songs off here:
"CRYSTAL KUROMI" was initially called "crystal kitty" and it is one of the weaker songs on the album. It is because it was one of the earlier ones, being made around late 2023. But, the sound and melody is there, it is just a little repetitive that's all.
"FREEDOM FESTIVAL" is one of my favourites. It's not overly complex, but it just hits right. Again, it has a moody aesthetic and no, it isn't mixed as well as the others, but it is my girlfriends favourite song from the album. During this time was when I realised that even when I slowed my own songs down, they still sounded good. So for this one (and the previous song I talked about) I added slowed down outros of the main "chorus" section.
"NEON VEINZ" is another favourite of mine. It's a punchy song that my friend Bayley said was like a Cyberpunk song which I thought was cool. I spent quite a while on this just because I knew that a song with so much wide sound and epicness would need tweaking alot, and it did!
"D1ST0RT3D R3AL1TY" is one of the more stand out tracks, because its so strange. It uses sampled drums and unconventional synths and sound effects. But I don't know what I was even going for on this one. I think I was just letting the song take me wherever it was going.
The last three tracks on this are deliberately more slowed down and softer to listen to, hence why these three tracks are all lower case. "in memory of the sixty seven" is a deliberate inspiration of the Silent Hill 2 sound track. I used soft real drum samples and incorporated a piano and pad that was a love letter to the OST. It is one of my favourite tracks I've produced, but it could have been mixed better I think. The seed track is, much like the interlude on Supremacy of Sound, an omage to the Minecraft OST. It is a beautiful track in my opinion that really captured that feeling you play when you have an infinite world to explore, but it also makes you slightly sad that you can't explore every part of it. I will always love this one too. And then there's "results screen" which is inspired by the Silent Hill 1 result screen music. I released this one ages ago back in mid 2023 on Soundcloud so it doesn't even really count to be on this album.
Overall, it's good. But I knew I could do better. In the back of my mind, I knew that this album was just not even really an album. It was just a collection of singles. So, I started making another album and I am far more proud of that than I am of this.
