I made it to work today at 8 AM. Crazy that the roads were super smooth and the only stops I made were at red lights. I am a bit more tired than usual I think, though not extremely tired, I've had my coffee so hopefully I wake up a bit more soon.
Seems that I'm going to have to model a few more props for the map that I'm making. Firstly, there is no round cafeteria table default in the CS2 prop list which surprised me. There is a square one, but obviously not what I need. Thankfully a round table will be quite simple to make in Blender. While I'm at it, I'd make the green chairs that populate almost the entire cafeteria which shouldn't be too hard either. They will likely be a bit blocky but that's fine. I'm not aiming for perfection on these props as I'm not a modeller nor do I have loads of experience with modelling. I can extrude faces, make loop cuts and apply textures, that's the extent of my modelling knowledge. I did know how to bevel edges but I forgot! So that is the plan tonight. I was actually going to texture the whole building first, but I feel that I might just work on one room at a time, adding props and THEN adding textures to that one room. Then moving onto the next room. This way, I won't burn myself out texturing the entire building, I can just work on one room at a time and make it look really nice. I need to refrain from adding small details when I work on these rooms one by one though, like adding individual pencils on the table or a TV remote on the teachers desk, etc. I will put the main props in, desks, chairs, TV, whiteboard and a door. There are a few textures I need to make, such as a pink wall and a blue wall. There may be similar ones in CS2 already, but these walls are a very specific colour that I think will be worth just making a new texture for. The pink is almost like a hot pink with a very slight purple tone. And the blue is a slightly more saturated and slightly darker ocean blue. I believe there is a green texture I need too which is mostly bright green but with a lime tinge to it.
The weird swivvel plastic chairs too, they are gonna be weird although I am tempted to just not bother and use regular office chairs for those. Also, the Budapest Major is on today! I've asked if someone can curate a list of links for matches so I can watch them unspoiled when I get in from work. I could just risk it by searching and squinting, but still it would be a good help. I forgot what Pick'Ems I made, I know for a fact that I have Faze to 3:0 and also either Legacy or GamerLegion to 3:0 too. I think my 3:1 and 3:2 qualifier picks are something like Fnatic, NIP, GamerLegion, NRG, then two others. And my 0:3 disqualification I know for sure I put The Huns in there and I forget the second one.
Back to the map, it has been nice looking at the buildings walls and stuff with dev textures, but it started to become a little dull with how obviously empty the place was. Now that I'm adding loads of desks and computers everywhere it's really making the place come to life. I don't care about gameplay right now, I'm just focusing on making the place as faithful as I can while also filling in gaps where I need them. Once all the props are in place, I might look to adjusting some sightlines, adding planks of wood to block obviously OP angles, or maybe I will just keep it as is and make it really crazy.
The spawn points are currently as follows: CTs spawn at the main entrance and Ts spawn at the top floor at the very back of the school. It made sense to begin with, however I feel that it makes the map relatively linear. I had a thought of moving the spawn points a lot further apart. Still on similar sides (like CTs spawning nearer the entrance, Ts spawning at the back) but having some CTs spawn on the first floor and same for Ts.
