Today I’ve been a victim of credit card fraud. But no worries, Lloyds are on the case! In the meantime, I want to make a game. I also want to work on a new music project that I began last night. I also want to continue writing my book. All of these projects… all at once! I struggle to know where to start sometimes. My best approach is to just sit down at my desk and see what takes my fancy. This usually works as I really dislike having time slots for certain projects as it makes it all feel forced. Even if I were to have a perfect routine where I worked on my book on Monday from 5 PM to 7 PM, I would really dislike it because when that time hits I might have some brilliant music idea in mind, or I might conjure up the motivation to embark on a new game idea, or just work on something else. So, planning work on projects just doesn’t work for me. I’ve tried it and it feels rubbish. I really work best when ideas come to mind and I get the most enjoyment out of it.
The music project, I’m inspired by Cult Members lo-fi house fusion music and I think it will be relatively easy to reproduce in my own style. I already made the first part of one song and I’ve currently called It some generic fluff. It sounds pretty good honestly, I think the project will be relatively easy to put together.
My book, I am currently working through the entirety of what I’ve wrote, summarising each chapter and highlighting in Reedsy what I think I need to adjust. That project will take time as I don’t have much motivation to write right now. Once I get into the swing of it then I can go for longer, but right now it is a long term project.
Now, game making. I have used Clickteam Fusion 2.5 for almost all of my games. It is a drag and drop game maker where you don’t code (though you can) and it is very user friendly on making 2D games. I’m quite proficient in it, however, there is a massive problem. It’s locked to 2D and I have been yearning to make a 3D game for as long as I can remember, all the way back since I first started making games in 2010 with Gamemaker 8.
All the big engines scare me. Unity, Unreal Engine, CryEngine, they all require coding and I fucking suck at writing code. However, there is one engine that I must try. GoDot. This is the same engine that runs Cruelty Squad, Psycho Patrol R and Bloodthief. And the best part? Their language is GDScript which is far easier to learn than something like C or C++. So tonight, I am going to give GoDot a go.
