I worked on my school map again today and I managed to get decals working, custom decals! I'll now be able to make custom posters and stuff for the walls all around the building, as well as populate that entire damn wall in the science section with literally thousands of individual pieces... that will not be fun.
Yesterday was valentines and it was awesome, I got my girlfriend some really nice flowers, pink and stuff. I was gonna get some red roses but I got her them last year (and I think the year before) so I wanted to change it up a bit. It was great, the day before we went to see a movie called Whistle but I genuinely left half way through. The reason I left is firstly because it was getting late, and secondly I really hate movies that leave no room for ambiguity and just do not respect the viewers intelligence. It laid out the entire point of the story so explicitly, there was absolutely no room for thoughts like "oh I wonder what might happen to that person" or "I wonder why the shot lingered on this one object for so long". It was just fucking spelled out to me, and the jumpscares are so damn formulaec that it's actually just funny to watch. Literally 50% of jumpscares go as follows:
Create a quiet scene where a character is spooked.
Have it build up to them turning a corner or something (basically have it build up to them looking where they think the scary thing is)
Have it be empty and no scare happens.
Then scare the viewer a few seconds later.
It was hilarious to watch and not scary in the slightest which is genuinely the worst combination for a HORROR movie. And I hate character that are just archetypes, like characters with no depth, their only purpose is to be an asshole or to be a support character or whatever. That's not a human character, that's a literary device, therefore it doesn't make them in any way relatable OR worth emotionally investing in. Make the characters... I don't know... have actual human elements?? No one is always an asshole or always nice. Give them a backstory, give them mood swings, give them motives and incentives. I just HATE mainstream movies they FUCKING SUCK. Anyway, rant over. Loved valentines day, was great.
