I’m writing this on the 25th because I just didn’t feel like it yesterday. Not that anything bad happened yesterday, it actually went better than I thought it would. I drove to work for the first time ever, and drove back. And drove to Halfords at about 7 PM! It is exhilarating knowing I can just drive wherever I want, presuming the conditions are alright. I don’t really want to be driving in the dark just yet, although as we are near the end of September, the dark nights are coming quick. So, I will have to anyway at some point. But for now it is very fun being able to drive around and stuff. It is a big mental tax though, like having my brain fully engaged while driving takes it out of me a bit. But, just like moving in was a huge tax on my mental state. I got used to it after about a month of exposure to just living alone. Now, with this car, the same is happening. It’s very good and everything, yes, but it’s just a whole other level of responsibility that I need to adjust to. Driving every day will build my confidence and I will eventually be very confident on the road. It’s just the adjustment period.
Also, the car park at work is fucking awful. All the spaces were full, there are NO parking spaces around the area that aren’t in front of someone’s fucking house, and I was driving around for 15 whole minutes just trying to park somewhere. Eventually, I just parked in front of my colleagues in my work car park, which I intentionally didn’t do because it’s very tight and sort of reserved for certain people. It’s not a rule, you can take any if you’re the first there, but I think I see the same cars there.
I went to Halfords yesterday because it was still a bit light and I wanted to take Kira on her first phone drive. It was so cool driving with her on call. On the way there I drove on the motorway but I didn’t need to join, going to Silverlink there’s a road that just goes right into the left lane, so no merge needed. Got through the big scary roundabout and into Silverlink. I went for P plates and the guy let me try and put them on my car before buying them, which I appreciate massively because they didn’t stick. Some cars just don’t work with magnetic P plates so it’s not the plates fault. It stuck to the roof no problem, just not the back where I need it. So I settled for a suction warning thing instead which has since fell off haha! Anyway, getting home I accidentally merged with the motorway. I didn’t need to merge, I was just in the wrong lane. But I did, and I moved back over when it was safe.
ThePC007 added me back on Steam! It’s crazy hearing from this guy, after 14 years when I first added him on YoYoGanes. He still does game development too, and he’s on a computer science course which just sounds far out of my league. Apparently he started working on his own voxel ray marcher? Sounds complicated as hell but very very cool! I just am so happy he’s a nice as he was back in the day too. I looked up to him when I was 8 and 9 years old, making terrible demos and he just managed to make cool games and have an awesome profile. So, being able to talk to him now feels like returning to your old school and speaking to your teachers from when you were a kid. It’s awesome and I’m glad to hear from him.
