I drove my car for the first time ever today. It was quite fun actually. I only drove around a few streets, like just basically a circle around the streets. I had a bit of hyper awareness moment trying to get it off the drive because my dad parked it forward on my drive. But, I managed. I just paused if anyone or anything came near me so they could walk past. I made it out of my street and drove around. This twat was thinking of overtaking me on a 20 ROAD. THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 20, AND I WAS GOING 20. Anyway, I then challenged myself. I went into Aldi car park! So, first time parking in a proper busy car park (well a little busy), also with the sun BLINDING THE SHIT OUT OF ME. I did a pro forward bay park which was at first a bit wonky. So, I got out, checked and yeah it was wonked. Got in, reversed back and went straighter. Then just went in to get food and came back out, drove home. And when I got home, I challenged myself again. Reverse park. This was serious now. I had to reverse up my drive with two actual obstacles (the walls) either side and NO reverse camera which I was used to having. But I managed, somehow. Now, tomorrow when I might drive to work, I can just drive forward off the drive.
Will I drive to work tomorrow? I most likely will. I know that if I just keep up with driving every day that it will only get easier. So I very likely will. I hope I do, because it's a big drive compared to what I did today. I know how to get there, that's not the problem. It's the rush hour traffic, the actual junctions I'll need to pay attention to also. My only worry is parking. I've heard some horror stories in that car park near my work! But, it is a small car so parking will be far far easier in this than the Mercedes or literally any other car. Especially better than the Ford Fusion that I was going to get which was like a mid size car.
I bought a phone holder and a dashcam today as well! It just plugs into the 12V charger and turns on, starts recording straight away when I turn the car on and powers off when I turn the car off. The phone holder is great and easy to use too. It's got a button on the back to release my phone and it just clicks into place with adjustment sides.
The dashcam was a bit pricey. About £44 for the camera and a rear camera. Oh yeah it comes with a rear camera too! I haven't installed that yet, but I know that a dashcam can lower the insurance so I just got it straight away. And the phone holder is just for convenience. I managed to tuck the wire in the rubber of the side wall and under the dashboard, so the only visible wire is at the top in the photo and a little bit where the 12V socket is. Oh, and it also overwrites old videos when the micro SD card gets full.
By the way, the second photo you see all the warning lights come on? Don't worry about that. They always come on when the car is idling, but when I actually turn the engine on they all go away. It scared the shit out of me when I was just sitting because I thought the entire car was fucked. But it's not thankfully.
