Kira landed in Poland today. She hasn't really been looking forward to it, but I understand why. I won't go into detail but I get it. We always call at 7 PM, literally every single night we call at 7 PM and I always find it comforting. I don't always realise how important I need us to call at 7 every day until it stops. Today, I haven't heard from her in two hours, and I'm presuming she has went to sleep. It's not her fault, she's had a very stressful day flying and getting to the hotel room so I don't blame her. But man, it really hits different when she isn't there to talk to. It just got so engrained into my routine that I talk to her each night that I forget that it's even a routine, it just became a part of life.
Anyway, I'm very sleepy. First day back at work kinda took it out of me. Hopefully I can get back into a semi-decent routine through the week. I have a half day holiday on Friday as well as the full Wednesday off which were two nice suprises. I genuinely forgot about them! But I'm glad that they are booked in.
Tonight I've just been tinkering about looking for stuff to do. I spent a tiny bit working on my song but not much whatsoever. I was going to play The Cat Lady some more which I started yesterday (brilliant game so far!) but I decided not to. I also thought I'd maybe write some of my book but that thought got dashed quite quickly. So instead I decided to have a jab at my PS3. It is a project that is ongoing, just slightly customising it more and more. Today I managed to change system icons and some XMB stuff.
Here you can see the background for options on the left that I changed and on the right you can see the changed info icon and custom system text. All of this is relatively simple to do actually. I'll explain how to do it below:
First, use FileZilla and connect it to your PS3.
Next, download Rcomage. I'm not sure where you can find it, but if anyone needs it just contact me I'd be happy to help.
Enable dev_blind using Webman on your PS3 and copy the system_plugin.rco file from dev_blind/vsh/resource/system_plugin.rco
Put it in a folder and open Rcomage.
Next, decompile the .rco file to a folder, preferably a separate folder.
Now you have a decompiled system_plugin.rco folder. This file basically just holds a bunch of XMB information, like logos, symbols and system sounds.
With it decompiled, you are free to edit anything in the images folder as they are simple .png files. If you want to modify the sounds (which I have done, I changed the scrolling and selecting sounds to Silent Hill 2 menu sounds) then these are in .vag format which you'll need to sort out yourself. I might explain at some point how to do this.
Once your images are changed, run Rcomage again, choose compile and choose the system_plugin.xml file in the folder where you decompiled.
A new system_plugin.rco file will be created in the decompile folder. Now just copy and replace this with the one in dev_blind/vsh/resource folder.
Restart your PS3 and you're done!
That's about it really. Oh, about the sounds. There is a program called AIFF2VAG.exe but again I'm not sure where you'd get this.
Here you can see my coldboot logo. I made this months ago, but thought I'd put it here anyway since I'm talking about my PS3. I had a whole plan to make a full screen animation. But it took far too long and turned out that it's ridiculously stupid to implement. I think I concluded that you just simply can't without custom tools and such. But this is cool enough honestly.
I made two animations. One that was 1920x1080 and another that was 944x528 at 10 fps. The first one I made without realising the PS3's video RAM cap. So I made the second one hoping to solve that issue, but turns out just implementing the damn thing is a pain in the ass. So, I didn't.
Anyway, enough yap about my PS3. I miss Kira, a lot. I'm not saying that I was used to her, but I was very comfortable with her always being available. Now that she isn't, it's scary. It's not normal to me and that's what worries me. I don't worry that anything bad will happen to her, not at all. Just being thrown out of routine is uncomfortable. I do hope she makes the most of her holiday though. I made her a quest list for Poland! Check it out below if you want, I just made it at work because I hope it might ease the stress. Once she gets home we will tally up how many she managed to complete and we will figure out if she is a noob or a Polish veteran!!! I think she'll definitely make it to Knight of Ksiaz, but we will just have to wait and see!
