Okay, to say last night was a disaster is an understatement. Well, some things went alright I think? But a lot of last night was just a big mess of me jumping between projects, hoping that I could get something worthwhile done. I mentioned in my last post that I wanted to try out Godot Engine and I did. I managed to get a simple FPS movement working, minus jumping and wall collisions. But the thing is that the tutorial I was watching seemed to be for people who didn’t exactly know how to use GoDot (me) but for people who also had a general coding understanding (not me). He was writing code quite fast and it didn’t feel intuitive to understand what everything meant. He was basically just writing a line and saying what it does without explaining each part.
Granted, I did manage to pick up what some things meant. For example the _process(delta) function runs every frame and is framerate based and the _ready() function runs only once when the game starts. So, yes I did learn these as well as a few other commands and stuff, but I think I had my hopes up too high. I was hoping for it to be at least readable, but a lot of code to me isn’t. I do think I can learn it, but it will take a long time, a lot of trial and error and A LOT of patience. I’m going to give it another go today, only for an hour or so this time.
I’m not even going to go into the text that I tried to do. Basically, I wrote the code exactly as the tutorial man said and it didn’t work at all. It was so bizarre even Roelof was confused and he’s someone who has coded since he was 12. Very annoying but it was also quite fun in a way trying to figure out why the hell it wasn’t working. I also know that the print(“test”) function is very helpful for debugging as it shows you if a line or block of code is even being ran or not.
It is a very interesting world, even if some of it feels long winded. I also have begun my new album, the first song I like very much. It is inspired by Cult Member, but I obviously don’t want to fully copy them so I’m just using samples that I enjoy the sound of instead of directly copying. I also managed to get some annotating of my book done at the very end of the day because I was stressing about not having much done that day.
My sister went to hospital today and my girlfriend was with her a lot of that day so we couldn’t call. Though she did have an incident where she freaked out at the hospital which wasn’t nice to hear, I do hope she’s okay as I was worried of what was wrong. Turns out her stomach has been hurting for weeks and she has only now just went to the hospital to check it out, having blood taken and running tests. I HATE having bloods taken so I get her totally.
